Sediment Continuity

Overall net erosion along a hillslope as function of downslope distance x may be calculated by solving a

steady state sediment continuity equation (Nearing et al., 1989)[1]:

whereby interrill erosion Df,iis considered to be independent of x. Rill erosion Df,ris positive for detachment (eqn 1.26, cf. section → Rill Erosion) and negative for deposition (eqn 1.28).
