A More Formal Understanding of Functions

As you know, a function assigns an input to exactly one output. We defined the set of inputs as the function's domain and the set of outputs as its range.

To describe a function f with a domain X and a codomain Y, we use the notation

f:XY

Discrete Functions

Up to this point, we have studied what are called continuous functions, which took on certain values on any given interval.
