Appendix 1: Solutions to Problems

Radians and Arc Length

  1. arc=2πr(θ360) is our formula for arc length; we can plug in our given values and solve. =2π×2(10360) which simplifies to =4π36 (notice the degree signs cancel) and further simplifies to =π9 which is our solution.
  2. 2π rad=360, so we can create a proportion
  3. 2π rad=360, so we can create a proportion
  4. arc=2πr(θ360) is our formula for arc length; we can plug in our given values and solve. 5=2π×4(θ360) which simplifies to 5=8πθ360 or 1800=8πθ or 18008π=225π=θ, which is our solution.
