WIP, Description in progress

Two basic lemmas treat the elimination of variables in a partitioned matrix.

Lemma 1

Consider the matricies Z=[Z11Z12Z12TZ22], Z11n×n, be symmetric. Then, there exists a symmetric matrix X such that

[Z11XZ12XZ12TZ220X0X]<0

if and only if

Z=[Z11Z12Z12TZ22]<0.

Lemma 2

Let Zij, i=1,2,3,j=i,,3, be given matrices of appropriate dimensions. Then there exists a matrix X such that

[Z11Z12Z13Z12TZ22Z23+XTZ13TZ23T+XZ33]<0

if and only if

Z=[Z11Z12Z12TZ22]<0, Z=[Z11Z13Z13TZ33]<0

In this case, X is given by

X=Z13TZ111Z12Z23T.
